Craig A. Grimes is an engineer and materials scientist, best known in mainstream science for work on nanostructured materials, who is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists for his co-authorship of a book presenting a classical electromagnetic reinterpretation of quantum theory.
Work
With his co-author Dale M. Grimes, both affiliated with Pennsylvania State University, Craig A. Grimes wrote The Electromagnetic Origin of Quantum Theory and Light (World Scientific; first edition 2002, second edition 2004). The book applies classical electromagnetic field theory to atomic-scale phenomena and argues that quantum behaviour — including photon emission and annihilation and electron nonlocality — can be recovered from classical field theory rather than requiring quantum theory as a separate fundamental description. This thesis, that classical electrodynamics "fully describes atomic scale events," runs counter to the standard view that quantum mechanics is fundamental, and it is on this basis that the authors appear in the dissident list.
