Dirk John Pons is a researcher and engineer, based at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, known for developing the "Cordus" theory, a non-local hidden-variable model of the internal structure of fundamental particles. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Work
Pons, together with collaborators A. D. Pons and A. J. Pons, has proposed the "Cordus theory" (also called the Cordus Conjecture), which departs from the standard-model view of particles as point-like. In the Cordus model a particle such as the electron or photon is represented as having two reactive ends separated by a span, connected by a fibril, with discrete forces emitted from the reactive ends. On this basis he argues for an ontologically detailed, non-local hidden-variable account of physical phenomena.
Applying this framework, Pons has published on the internal and external structures of the electron and antielectron, arguing that matter and antmatter differ in a form of "handedness," and on related processes such as pair production, annihilation, and photon emission and absorption. The paper "Differentiation of Matter and Antimatter by Hand: Internal and External Structures of the Electron and Antielectron" appeared in Physics Essays (2012). Further papers applying the Cordus theory have appeared in journals including Applied Physics Research and the Journal of Modern Physics.
These proposals lie outside the accepted framework of quantum mechanics and the Standard Model, which treat elementary particles as point-like and generally exclude local or non-local hidden-variable descriptions of the kind Pons advocates.
