Ervin Goldfain is a researcher known for applying complex dynamics, fractal geometry, and nonlinear methods to problems in high-energy physics and cosmology. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Work
Goldfain has published a large body of preprints and papers, including in the journal Progress in Physics and on the viXra repository, on topics such as fractal spacetime and multifractal geometry, the Standard Model of particle physics, dark matter, quantum gravity, and the foundations of quantum field theory. A recurring theme in his work is what he terms "complex" or fractal quantum field theory (c-QFT), in which conventional momentum operators are generalised to fractional (fractal) differential operators.
Reacting to the 2011 OPERA anomaly, Goldfain wrote "Photon-Neutrino Symmetry and the OPERA Anomaly" (viXra:1111.0010), in which he suggests treating the photon and neutrino as members of a doublet and applies his fractal-operator framework to the reported superluminal timing. These ideas are heterodox and fall outside the accepted formulation of quantum field theory; the OPERA result itself was subsequently traced to a hardware fault.
