From Galileo to Lorentz... and Beyond is a 2003 book by the physicist Joseph Levy, published by Apeiron (Montreal).

Overview

Assuming the existence of a fundamental aether frame and the anisotropy of the one-way speed of light in the Earth frame — assumptions Levy argues are supported by theory and by experiment — the book derives a set of space-time transformations more general than the standard Lorentz–Poincaré transformations. Levy explores the far-reaching implications of these "extended" transformations for the interpretation of special relativity, arguing for a neo-Lorentzian view in which a preferred frame exists but is largely concealed by measurement effects (length contraction, clock retardation, and synchronization by light signals).

About the author

Joseph Lévy is a French physicist known for his work reviving Lorentz–Poincaré aether theory and for his neo-Lorentzian critique of special relativity. See also his Invariance of Light Speed: Reality or Fiction?.
