Eletrodinâmica de Ampère (full title: Análise do significado e da evolução da força de Ampère, juntamente com a tradução comentada de sua principal obra sobre eletrodinâmica) is a 2011 Portuguese-language book by André Koch Torres Assis and João Paulo Martins de Castro Chaib, published by Editora da Unicamp.

Overview

The book analyses the meaning and historical evolution of Ampère's force law and includes a complete, commented Portuguese translation of Ampère's principal 1826 memoir, Théorie des phénomènes électro-dynamiques, uniquement déduite de l'expérience. It reconstructs the experimental path by which Ampère arrived at his force between current elements and discusses the controversies surrounding it — a force notable, among other things, for acting along the line joining the elements and for including longitudinal components absent from the modern Grassmann/Lorentz form.

Reception

The book received the 2012 Jabuti Prize (Brazilian Book Chamber) as the best book of the year in Exact Sciences and Technology.

About the authors
