It's only in the case of closed electric circuits, where the current returns to its point of departure, that charged particles can actually flow through the circuit. If charged particles were to undergo a net flow in the case of transmission lines, then, since they can't dissipate, they would have to build up at the far end, and this clearly doesn't happen. It follows therefore, that electric current must involve a more fundamental substance that does actually dissipate after it has been absorbed by a load. This article will propose a possible substance that might explain the deeper undercurrent that is involved in electric circuits.
