"...Dr. Schaffranke had been in Peenemunde, Germany, where he worked alongside the legendary rocket scientist Werner von Braun. Schaffranke was the youngest of the group of German scientists including von Braun who were spirited out of Germany by American intelligence agents at the close of World War II and brought to the United States in order to advance the fledgling U.S. rocket program.
