Return of the Ether: When Theory and Reality Collide is a 1999 book by the electrical engineer Sid Deutsch, published by SciTech Publishing.

Overview

Deutsch proposes reviving the nineteenth-century concept of the luminiferous ether to make physical sense of "quantum weirdness." He applies the idea to determinism, photons and electrons, the hydrogen atom, Bell's theorem, special relativity, and the Big Bang, arguing that an ether provides a more intuitive account of phenomena that are otherwise treated as irreducibly strange.

About the author

Dr. Sid Deutsch (1918–2015) was an American electrical and biomedical engineer who received his doctorate from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1955 and taught at Polytechnic, Rutgers Medical School, Tel Aviv University, and the University of South Florida.
